and homewares

With each Craft Changeover comes a new Featured Artisan. This month it is accomplished member, Helga Greiter, who also is a great artist as well, her art work will be featured at a later date, but now it is her pottery, wirework, and crochet that is in the spotlight.

Tilligerry Arts Group - Artist Profile

HELGA GREITER

I was born in Austria and have always enjoyed art and craft. At the age of 14 years, I started a hairdressing apprenticeship and finished the trade with the required master diploma to open a salon in Austria. I enjoyed very much creating hairstyles and coloring with tints.

In 1970 I moved with my husband to Dem. Rep. Congo (Africa) until end of 1979.
We migrated to Australia in 1980 where soon I had my second child, the first was born in Africa.

In Sydney I took drawing and sketch classes, but family and business kept me too busy to continue my love for painting, drawing and creating.

A serious bike/car accident with back injuries in 1999 was the end of my hairdressing career and it was time to concentrate and pick up art again.

After we moved to Singapore in 2003 for 3 years, I took classes with Davi Beschizza a local water colorist. In addition, I learned jewelry beading and wire works and also studied Mandarin (Chinese) for one year.

Back in Sydney, I enjoyed lessons with John Wells (Mural & Trompe L’Oeil Artist) for two years.

In 2008 we moved from Sydney to Nelson Bay and joined the Port Stephens Community Arts Centre where I added pottery and quilting to my skills. Also I continue to enjoy various classes with local artists and am always approachable for new techniques.

I paint mainly in acrylics, love pottery, beading, crochet, knitting and wire works.
