The Tomaree Peninsula Photography Club

The Tomaree Peninsula Photography Club came into being November 2008 over a cup of coffee and an ad in the local paper. The response from the ad was sufficient for us to meet at the Nelson Bay Diggers and begin making  arrangements for the formation of the club.

Rudy, being at the initial meeting and through his connection to the Soldiers Point Bowling Club, was able to arrange for us to hold our monthly meetings and activities at the club. This makes our club and committee meetings very pleasant as we are able to have a drink as well as order food or coffee.

Since then we have grown steadily and were able to hold our first Photography Exhibition in November 2009. This was a great success and has since been followed by another in October 2010.
Our club meetings are held 7pm on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at Soldiers Point Bowling Club. Each month there is a Set Theme Subject for us to photograph as well as an Open Subject [for details of the upcoming theme subjects see Calendar].

We display our photographs at club meetings and vote for the one we think the best. Currently we have four sections they are, Open, Black & White, Creative/Altered Reality, and Macro making up the PRINT sections and one digital image file in any format including panorama.  The second Tuesday of the month is dedicated to workshops, lectures general information nights, guest speakers and any general business.

We also have club photography outings which have included whale watching with Imagine Cruises, an outing to the Stockton Sand Dunes, and a night shoot on the Newcastle waterfront among others. The Club Calendar and the Clubs Facebook page has the latest details of outings and events planned.
We aim to keep formalities at club meetings to a minimum.

Our President's maxim is that we are there to have fun. Meetings variously feature guest speakers, presentations by club members and hands-on workshops covering a wide range of photographic subjects. Committee meetings are held when needed and there is an open invitation to all members to attend them.
