Well this is me…

Jannine Kay,  J’Neen, “Aussi Butterfly Lady”,

Jannine Deneen…Current showing:- En Plein Air Landscapes in Oils, and Acrylic Mixed Media Works.

I commenced my artistic designs/artwork as a young child sitting most evenings at opposite ends of the kitchen table with my mother, drawing and painting, or other craft work whatever took our fancy at the time, but mostly playing with colour in Derivan Vinyl paints. (after the dairy was done!)

In Grade 6, highly esteemed artist and potter, Enid Cryer, who lived nearby took notice of my work and encouraged me to pursue my adventures in artwork.

My dream continued and at long last I had an opportunity to really dig in to some formal learning, doing a Certificate in Art Foundation through Tumut TAFE. Here I found the thrill of producing work in oils, conte crayon, ink, watercolour, charcoal, pen and ink, and graphite. My teacher there was Brian Wild who was a stickler for high quality work, therefore I endeavour to make him proud of what I now produce.

Since moving back to my home area of Hunter Valley, in 1990, I have undertaken lessons in the Port Stephens area, from various local artists.

I also enjoy photography and more recently have produced high quality images, putting them to print in photobooks in which I have edited all the layouts. I have produced Greetings Cards(postcards) for our locality. Large format prints are available from any of these, upon request.

My latest works, Acrylic Mixed Media, featuring the use of acrylic inks is the perfect medium for celebrating my enthusiasm for butterflies. I have spent the last few years learning the needs of two local butterflies in particular...The Wanderer (Monarch), and the Blue Triangle. These two species of butterflies have inspired me to look more closely into the world of butterflies...and has gained me the moniker "Butterfly Lady", but I am only a beginner…..I source a lot of information from an American woman who is an expert who posts wonderful information and pictures on her facebook page, and also my own experience growing butterfly breeding and food plants, collecting eggs and caterpillers for the purpose of protecting them from predators so that they can achieve maturity, and thence turn into butterflies which are then released, gaining  information from Bribie Island Butterfly House and Coffs Harbour Butterfly House as well as books and internet sites…

Aussi "Butterfly Lady", J’Neen!
