Marcia Wakeman has always been artistic.   She remembers drawing a salt and pepper shaker with a floral wallpaper backgroundwhen she was 4 years old.

Her family migrated from England in the 60’s to the western suburbs of Sydney and then in her teens they moved to Port Macquarie (a sea change).

She became an art teacher in the 70's due to the Whitlam government giving out teachers scholarships and went to Newcastle University and there she met so many like minded people (She loved the 70’s).

In the following years she met her husband Kev; went to work at various High Schools; Kev built a amazing house based on Frank Lloyd Wright's principles; had 3 daughters; went back to work and basically gave up her art process until she semi retired in 2004.

Then she started to explore new ideas and to use them in her art practice. That's how her mixed media paintings were born with the use of inks, different paints, dyes, red soil, glues and even ‘No Gap’. When she has finished a painting she would take a photo, which she changed on the computer, then redraw it and that's where she found all sorts of animals and weird creatures.

Art History is another favourite hobby, so going to Europe and exploring every cathedral and art gallery (to Kevs dismay at times) was one of the main highlights of her life.   She came home to explore more mediums. So it was in Sicily where her idea for jewelry started by picking up worn glass pieces from the Sicilian beaches.

She now enjoys retired life and doing what she has always wanted to do and that is TO MAKE ART. May the Art be with you!
